Specialty Arabica from strong,
ethnic Myanmar women

Ywangan Amayar is a woman-owned coffee agribusiness in Shan State, Myanmar’s premium coffee growing region. Our founder is from the Danu ethnic community.

We source coffee from 400+ families across 120 hectares at altitudes of 1,300–1,600 MSL. Half of our farmers are youth aged 20–30 years old. Ethnic groups here include Danu, Shan, Burmese, Palaung, Pa-O, Kachina and Kayen. Danu were traditionally skilled archers, warriors and protectors of the king.

Most of the coffee is Catuai with our specialty coffee cupping at 83+.

In 2017, we built a factory with a coffee washing station (CWS) and a mill in Ywangan. Having our own mill is more convenient for local producers, and supports higher incomes and local job opportunities.

The key people are our employees, farmers, collectors, and staff, including me. I am focused on maintaining the quality, increasing production, and getting a sustainable market. I aim to work smart and systematically. Part of my plan is to acquire certificates (e.g. HACCP, ISO, GMP, and Organic).

Ywangan Amayar Co. aims to increase production from 50–100 tons per year of naturals, honeys and fully washed coffee.

We are focused on:

  • Quality

  • Excellent customer service

  • Consistency

  • Fair prices

Markets

Our primary focus is specialty green bean coffee markets. 70% of our coffee is exported, mostly to the USA, France, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, and Thailand.

We have an FDA certificate from the USA and an export license.

I am focused on the export market because it is about sustainability, good practices, and outstanding coffee. Women, youth, and remote communities can benefit greatly from better, premium prices.

Exports are important for our overall economy, and it links local farmers to the market. I am delighted to share our Myanmar coffee to the world, it is a wonderful feeling and achievement. It also is an incentive to farmers to upgrade other agricultural products.
